MICHAEL LEGEND HOPE AND RELIEF INITIATIVE – MLHARI

MICHAEL LEGEND HOPE AND RELIEF INITIATIVE – MLHARI

REGISTRATION NUMBER: CAC/IT/NO 112060
was duly registered and incorporated as a Nongovernmental Organization on the 28th day of May 2018 and was amended by Resolution on the 19th day of August 2022. For the past few years, MLHARI (a duly Registered Non-profit Organization with Head Office in Abuja Nigeria and working in accordance with the laws of the land) has focused on advancing quality healthcare and education in various communities in Nigeria. Our Humanitarian Programs cut across Poverty Alleviation, Disaster Relief, Community Development, Basic Education, Rights Advocacy and Youth Mentorship/Support. The Organization has achieved measurable success in reaching out to thousands of beneficiaries as we have embarked on various sustainable projects cutting across the focuses identified above. We are passionate about the well-being of the poorest of the poor in society, and this sincere passion drives us to reach out to more people who are in dire need of various forms of humanitarian assistance/support. We are usually the last hope of most people we reach out to.

1. Project Hope: This is the first humanitarian mission of the Institution. Following our firm belief that humanity needs humanitarians, the Project advances the core mandate of MLHARI by touching lives and restoring hope to the hopeless in all nations. Coming up three times a year, the historic Project Hope provides a platform for humanitarians, individuals, and organizations around the world to give back to humanity by contributing their quota, expressing their passions, and bringing their gifts and talents to bear in a bid to end human suffering.

2. Project 1000 Kids in School: MLHARI believes that education should be a fundamental human right, and so this Project is dedicated to out-of-school and less-priviledged children in Africa and around the world.

3. The Twin Campaign: At the discovery of the practice of infanticide (killing of certain categories of infants like twins and multiple births, babies with albinism, physically challenged newborns, and others) in Abuja Nigeria on account of some outdated cultural and diabolic belief systems, we launched this Campaign in 2018 in order to raise awareness as well as sensitize communities with the aim of ending this practice. Gains have been made, but the Campaign is still progressive.

4. Christmas Outreach: MLHARI marks Christmas yearly by taking love and support to those who need it the most in rural villages, orphanages, Internally Displaced Persons Camps, Hospitals, to mention a few. The Outreach comes up on the 26th of December annually.

As an NGO, there are three (3) ways we identify projects:

PREVAILING CHALLENGES: We identify projects based on the prevailing challenges confronting the nation, a state or a given locality per time. For instance, when the nation was under lockdown due to the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic ravaging the world, we organized different projects at different localities (e.g., Lukuku and Kaida villages in the interiors of Gwagwalada Area Council of the FCT) to create awareness about the safety and precautionary measures for the pandemic.
We also distributed relief materials such as our locally made reusable face masks which were made by our volunteer tailors and fashion designers (since it was difficult for those communities to get a steady supply of the medical face masks) and hand sanitizers. In addition to these was the distribution of relief materials to cushion the effects of the pandemic.
We also took advantage of various strategies online to spread awareness on the pandemic.

RECOMMENDATIONS: We got a recommendation to visit a village in the interiors of Kwali Area Council from one of our partner missionaries (Pastor Simon Bulus in 2019). When the time was right, we called to notify him and went for surveillance. We took note of the needs of the community and for the love of humanity, we dedicated the 10th Project Hope Dnako village, Kwali Area Council, FCT on Saturday 29th August 2018. This is one of our usual ways of identifying project locations.

EXPLORATION & DISCOVERIES: As a Humanitarian Organization, we look into the society, organizations, and localities per time and identify various degrees of challenges ranging from food and water crisis, education, human rights abuses, community interests, to mention a few.
Our uniqueness as an organization is the fact that we go beyond the regular areas, in terms of demography and distance, we go further and deeper into localities and villages that are in dare need of humanitarian assistance. And this is one of the things we are known for.
Having identified areas of interest in a community, we pick a day to visit them, and then we engage with them by interacting with them to know the areas of their challenges. As soon as they highlight their challenges, we build the project around those challenges. For the things we can immediately accomplish, we swing into immediate action. For the things we may not be able to accomplish, we partner.
In addition, after we visit these communities and/or localities on the day appointed for the project, we start a follow-up relationship and carryout scheduled post-project visits so as to ensure that they are making progress as we explore other regions to help.

DATA COLLECTION
Part of what we do is that before and during each project we collect names, numbers, write down challenges, accomplishment and future expectations as the case maybe.

OUR TOOLS
Some of our tools include: cameras, projector screens, pictorial gestures, mentoring etc. Moving on into the future as we grow, we are hoping to bring in more tools relevant to each project to make impact easier and more effective.

SENSITIZATION
By creating awareness on what we want to do at every given locality, to enable our partners, donors and volunteers know how to come in to assist in their own capacity. In addition, this covers enlightenment of beneficiaries on prevailing concerns and compliance mechanisms.

ADVOCACY
Depending on the focus per time, we remain committed to advocating for the rights of the underserved in the society. One of our main platforms for human rights advocacy is the Mass Media.

IMPLEMENTATION
With the relief materials and/or cash donations we receive from partners, donors, and supporters, we implement designated projects, such as water supply, healthcare services, education, etc. There are various localities today, as we get the opportunities and required support, we will give them schools, medical centers, easy and accessible road networks and other social amenities. As we grow we are ready to achieve more, ready to go further.
